Hi, I am having a problem with Windows defragmenter, and every time when I run it, I get this following error message:Disk Defragmenter has detected that Chkdsk is scheduled to run on the volume: (C:).
Please run Chkdsk /f. . I haven't done that yet, because I don't know what this will do. Or if it will delete anything. This is my first time seeing this error message.
Wow, haven't seen that command line parameter in a while. Chkdsk is winxp's version of Scandisk. The /f paramater means fix and should correct any errors on the drive such as bad bad sectors. You will not hurt anythinkg at all by running this utillity and it will actually help. You may get a message stating that there are files in use and the machine will have to be restarted. It may ask if you want to run this utillity at the next start. Anser yes and when it restarts you will not have speech durring the running of chkdsk. when it's done the machine should boot and you will hear the windows sound. Remember, this is a good thing so run chkdsk/f and then defrag when it's done.
Hi,
click on start
run
type in to the box - chkdsk /f
agree to the question
shut down and re-start

However, be forewarned, this may take a very long time, and don't mess with your computer while it's running.
But, it's a stable utility, and shouldn't have any problems, but since you won't have speech during it's running, just trust it and... go shopping, or go watch a long movie, or something.

Yes bob that's true.
